Wells Community Day
Dry Stone Walling Association aims to promote a greater understanding and knowledge about the traditional craft of dry stone walling and to encourage the repair and maintenance of dry stone walls in the natural landscape. Dry stone walls are an essential part of the Mendip landscape and play a part in the landscape of other parts of the region. The South West England branch of the Association runs weekend courses for beginners at Priddy, Nailsea, Marshfield and Ham Hill making use of various different types of stone. Further information can be found at www.swedswa.org.uk

Litter Pickers is a group of 200+ community volunteers who spread all over Wells on ‘Litter Clean-up Weekends’ to locate & remove all sorts of litter from our public spaces. WHAT A WASTE draws on both the professional expertise and extensive experience of Wells Litter Pickers to illustrate ( ‘litterly’ ) for the Wells Community the nature & scale of our litter problem, and the consequences of not doing something about it. Visit us, try your hand with a litter-picker, see the kind of litter that infests Wells, learn about our efforts to help reduce litter at source… and bring us your questions & concerns!

Root Connections (CIC) is a Community Garden offering a local vegetable box delivery scheme and a cut-flower subscription service, all grown to organic principles to support the homeless hostel on site. Our mission is to help end rural homelessness and improve the health and wellbeing of vulnerable adults with complex needs. We support initial recovery through Social and Therapeutic Horticulture with trained practitioners, encourage community engagement for social reintegration, and build life skills by teaching people to grow, produce and cook food. Every penny of profit is reinvested to expand our positive social impact. www.rootconnections.co.uk

Somerset Wildlife Trust works to protect and restore wildlife on our own nature reserves and in the wider landscape. We do this through developing the county's key landscapes through work on our own reserves and working with neighbouring landowners and other key Somerset people and organisations.

Sustainable Wells is an organising group supporting a number of local initiatives, all run to support a reduction in our carbon footprint:
Repair Café - repairing stuff to reduce landfill
Freecycle - like a car boot sale but no money changes hands
Fresh and Good - local food, laughter and building community
Make and Mend - making and extending the life of your clothing and Tor Hill Lane - the pathway to helping nature, on your doorstep.

Wells Bus Users Group, part of the Somerset Bus Partnership, represents the interests of current and future bus passengers in Wells and the surrounding area. We encourage everyone to make 2026 the year for new journeys by bus. Choosing the bus more often helps protect local services by increasing passenger numbers and reducing the risk of funding cuts. Travelling by bus can reduce stress, removing parking worries and traffic frustrations, while giving time to relax, read or unwind. Bus travel also benefits Somerset’s environment by cutting congestion and emissions. Join us in supporting sustainable, accessible transport for a greener, more connected community.
