Volunteering in Wells.

Looking for ways to help and support others in our community?

We think volunteering is the best way to become a part of the solution, to overcome some of the challenges that our community faces, here in Wells, Somerset

Helpline:

Helpline volunteers

We are currently looking for people to help to answer the helpline. If you can take a regular slot, full training will be given. We have several 2 hour or 3 hour slots available.

Since March 2020 we have been running a telephone helpline service to respond to the needs of the community. Each week day requests come through for help: delivering prescriptions, shopping, transport.

‘Being a helpline volunteer is a rewarding experience because it provides a sense of purpose and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of others. It is incredible to witness the strength and resilience of individuals facing challenges, and to know that our helpline is there to support them during difficult times. The gratitude expressed by those we have helped serves as a constant reminder of the impact we have on their lives’ Annalisa

Helpline coordinators

We are looking for people who can coordinate the requests received by the telephone helpline and send them to volunteers in our WhatsApp groups. This role takes 1 hour one morning each week or every other week.

‘It is hugely rewarding that when you are the first link in a request for help you know there is a reliable willing network of people who will unfailingly respond’ Alison

‘Having only been WACing for a few months, I am humbled by the kindness of the people involved with the WCN. It's such a pleasure to be part of it’. Sharon

Shopping or prescription delivery volunteers

We are always looking for people to run errands, do shopping and deliver prescriptions.

‘Helping people to feel happy and cared for has a positive effect on the giver’ Mary

‘Volunteering is a way of giving something back to society, a sort of thank you for the fortunate lives we lead. There are some lovely people out there!’ Caroline

‘Just a little help from a friendly volunteer can make a huge difference to someone’s day and lifts the spirits of both.’ Hazel

‘Giving time and listening to people who want to tell you their stories is a huge privilege.’ Nigel

‘It is what makes our community what it is. A network of brilliant folk helping and making sure everybody feels that community spirit in everything we do. It’s Wells!’ Jules
