A citizen-led campaign group working to make Wells a city where disabled people feel included, safe and welcome. We focus on improving the local travel network by addressing issues such as drop kerbs, traffic speeds, disabled parking, pavement obstructions, dog fouling and accessible footpaths. We also promote greater inclusion through better access to disabled toilets, accessible tourism, disabled sport, employment opportunities and housing provision. Our work includes encouraging businesses to make reasonable adjustments, sharing best accessibility practice and providing clear accessibility information for residents and visitors.

Wells Independents have eight out of the 16 members of Wells City Council and two rock-solid principles:

1. Party politics have no place on local government.

2. We should give our time as volunteers in the community.

For example with Wells SOUP’s grant-giving lunch, campaigning on domestic abuse, litter-picking in the city, making pavements safer for the disabled, climate change, supporting the vulnerable, working with local charities and fundraising for them.

“People not politics” is our catchphrase. Find out more
